THE OC SMOOTHIE

Oranges, cranberries (OC) and ginger bring the wonderful flavours of Thanksgiving to this super healthy and satisfying sweet-tart shake!

Fresh ginger adds a wonderful slightly peppery kick along with amazing health benefits.  It has been widely used for centuries for its anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, analgesic and pro-digestive effects.  Furthermore, research suggests that ginger consumption may boost immunity and reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, stroke and heart disease.

If my digestion is in need of some extra assistance, I’ll also throw some pineapple into the mix. Pineapple is rich in vitamins (especially vitamin C), minerals and antioxidants, as well as a complex enzyme called bromelain.  This protein-digesting compound is believed to have numerous health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and pro-digestive effects.

For 2 servings, blend together until smooth:

  • 2 cups peeled, diced fresh oranges (or a combination of oranges and fresh or frozen pineapple)

  • 1 cup unsweetened cashew or nut-free milk (I like to use my Almond Cow to make homemade plant-based milk)

  • 1/2 cup or more frozen unsweetened organic cranberries, adjusted to taste

  • 2 Tbsp cashew nut butter (optional)

  • 2 Tbsp Nuzest Clean Lean Just Natural or Smooth Vanilla protein powder (optional)

  • 1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger, adjusted to taste

  • a couple drops of pure orange extract or fresh orange zest, adjusted to taste (optional)

  • Lakanto sugar-free monk fruit sweetener, pure stevia, maple syrup, or raw honey (nonvegan), adjusted to taste
