CHOCOLATE ORANGE OBSESSION SMOOTHIE
/I am totally obsessed with this smoothie! Chocolate and orange are a classic combination and they blend together beautifully to make a vitamin and antioxidant-rich treat. Interestingly, chocolate and orange are 2 of the world's most popular flavours (the other top 3 flavour being vanilla).
Cacao is the purest form of chocolate we can consume. It is free of all the unhealthy sugar and other additives found in most processed chocolate. And it is a nutritional powerhouse!
Raw cacao is unbelievably rich in antioxidants and minerals including iron and magnesium. As a bonus, the vitamin C from the orange helps our bodies absorb that plant-based iron. Furthermore, cacao is a great source of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, making it a natural mood enhancer.
The chia seeds and almond butter are optional, but add healthy fat and protein to make this shake a more satisfying breakfast or snack.
For 2 servings, blend together until smooth:
2 cups peeled diced fresh oranges
1 cup unsweetened almond milk (I like to use my Almond Cow to make homemade plant-based milk)
2 to 3 standard ice cubes (optional, for colder smoothie)
1 Tbsp chia seeds
1 to 2 Tbsp Giddy Yo raw cacao powder, adjusted to taste
1 to 2 Tbsp almond butter, adjusted to taste
Lakanto sugar-free monk fruit sweetener, pure stevia, or sweetener of choice, adjusted to taste
optional add-ins: 2 Tbsp Nuzest Clean Lean Rich Chocolate protein powder and/or orange zest or a few drops pure orange extract, adjusted to taste
optional toppings: Giddy Yo cacao nibs, or toppings of choice
